I woke up in sunny and warm Tortola, BVI on Friday morning and after coffee and breakfast I made my way to one of the islands seaports. After buying tickets and paying a security fee, I waited to board a ferry to St Thomas. Just after a short rain storm abated, I boarded the ship and settled in on the open air of the top deck. I was glad to have my camera with me, as the hour long tour was breathtaking.
I feel so very fortunate to work with All Hands and Hearts in their efforts to restore this part of the world to it's pre-hurricane glory.
Although shaky from the rocking of the boat, you can see a time-lapse of my voyage below.
In the wake of an unthinkable natural disaster I found a new home and a new family of friends in Houston, Texas. A 10-day volunteer commitment turned into 6.5 months in a city I might have never visited. The strength, perseverance, and community this city has demonstrated since Hurricane Harvey is nothing short of astounding, and I couldn't be prouder to have been a part of it.
To the volunteers and staff I've met and worked with in Houston, you are an inspiration.
Houston still needs your help. The scale of the disaster in Houston is greater than you can imagine. The media and news have moved on to different stories, but you can still make a significant difference. Please donate if you can: give.allhandsandhearts.org/bob
